Enhancing data use for policy management:
The DOSC addresses the challenge of inadequate data utilization in Nigeria’s health policy management by enhancing leadership skills in data-driven decision-making. Through training and resource provision, it empowers leaders to identify critical challenges, prioritize objectives, and mobilize resources strategically. Leveraging existing structures and using innovative platforms such as the TRAC, DOS Center fosters collaboration among key stakeholders, visibly improving public health management processes and instilling trust among government officials, thereby facilitating more efficient technical assistance.
Achieving Alignment of National and Sub-National Priorities in the Nigerian Public Health System:
National policies, strategies and plans do not respond to the needs of local communities. DOSC creates platforms and processes to align local needs and national priorities. Innovative platforms enable meaningful engagement between national leaders and critical stakeholders. Data-driven decision-making through rigorous analysis, and transparent consultations enhances health policy effectiveness. Ultimately this leads to more accountability and efficiency of the healthcare system.
Strengthening Institutional and Leadership Capacities:
Technical Assistance (TA) for capacity building often becomes technical replacement and lead to donor dependency by government officials. DOSC works from behind to strengthen institutional and personnel capacities in a sustainable manner. Working closely with public leadership, we use a Thought-Partnership Model to facilitate identification and resolution of strategic challenges. Through learning-by-doing, this method of TA contributes to a stronger health system able to effectively deliver services in a sustainable manner.
